George Chalhoub is an Assistant Professor in Human-Computer Interaction at University College London and an Associate Member of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford.
His research sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, usable security, privacy, online safety, and technology governance, with a particular interest in how emerging technologies reshape questions of human agency, responsibility, trust, and oversight. At the Berkman Klein Center, George's work focuses on the safety and governance of AI systems and their broader effects on people and digital institutions. His research examines how people understand, trust, and delegate tasks to increasingly capable AI systems; how failures in oversight, responsibility, and system design can create security and safety risks; and how technical, organizational, and policy interventions can make these systems safer and more accountable. He also continues to study online platforms and content governance, including the use and misuse of copyright takedown systems and their interaction with AI-generated content. George holds a PhD in Cyber Security from the University of Oxford, where he also conducted postdoctoral research. His work draws on experience across academia and industry, including previous research roles at Microsoft Research and Nokia Bell Labs.
